Paragraphs about performances
Look at two different videos of poem performances (I posted them on the blog). What do they emphasize about the original poems and how do they get you to think differently about the original poems? What do the performances accomplish in bringing the poems to the stage? Be specific and be sure to read over the original poem and refer to it. This will count as a quiz grade. 300-600 words.
Video 1
I Too.
This poem emphasized everything about the poem because the narrator just read the entire poem. I think the kids in the video emphasized that they will feel ashamed for making the darker brother sit in the kitchen when people are eating. At the end the darker brother gets mad and loses his cool when he’s told to leave and it looks like he’s about to punch the other kid that’s a bad way to handle the situation. I think that was a bad part to emphasize because the poem shouldn’t be about blowing up on the people who have wronged u, it should be about coming together and standing up for urself in a way that helps you come together. That’s what our group emphasized and I think it was a better way to portrait the poems true meaning.
Video 2
I Too by a different group
This video portraits the poem in a similar way as the last video. It’s still different from how my group plays it out but I think they did it better than the last group. In this poem the darker brother says he will sit at the table with the guests and no one will say anything to me. When he goes to sit at the table the girl looks as if she’s going to say something but then the darker brother repeated himself. That was a strong and smart way for the dark brother to stand up for himself and I like it. After that was said they guest and the girl sat and ate with the darker brother so it worked out peacefully and they came together kind of how we ended our video just in a different way. I thought it was cool to look at the 3 different ways of portraying the poem.
